Alternative Response Officer

As an Alternative Response Officer, you play a distinctive role in delivering public safety services within our city. Your duties involve offering investigative and enforcement support to police officers. Your tasks vary widely; one day you could be engaging in community outreach and providing referrals for vulnerable individuals, while the next, you might be securing a crime scene or transporting individuals who have been arrested.

Basic Requirements

  • 19 years of age
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Uncorrected* visual acuity of 20/60 in both eyes or better, OR 20/40 in one eye and 20/100 in the other eye or better
  • No criminal charges pending before the courts
  • No criminal record and free from criminal involvement in three preceding years (e.g. thefts, illegal drugs – detected and undetected)
  • No criminal convictions for which a Record Suspension (previously known as a pardon)
    has not been granted. A copy of the Record Suspension is required.
  • Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency Status
  • Excellent physical health
  • Experienced Class 5 driver’s license
  • Post-secondary education and/or related work/volunteer experience is an asset

*The RPS accepts applicants who have had corrective eye surgery over three months prior to selection panel

Applicants must also:

  • Applicants must also: have their grade 12 or grade 12 equivalent. Any post secondary education will be considered an asset.
  • Submit to a polygraph
